The HUSO Online Initiative
For the 2020-2021 academic year, the HUSO Service team plans to provide remote STEM education to K-12 students through our new initiative, HUSO Online. HUSO Online aims to bridge the gap between traditional STEM pedagogy and remote education in a fun, innovative way. We hope that through this initiative, we can have a greater impact in underserved communities who might not usually have access to these resources, especially during this era of social distancing.
The HUSO Online Open Competition
In Spring 2021, we are planning on hosting the HUSO Online Open, a free-to-access and accessible online academic tournament, run independently from and wholly unaffiliated with National Science Olympiad and its programs. This competition offers a diverse set of events that encourage participant teams to engage in topics ranging from cybersecurity and machine learning to biotechnology and computer-aided design. With events designed by former national medalists and academic/industry experts, we hope to challenge and inspire our participants.
Online Education
We will be recruiting content creators, lesson organizers, and technical support staff to help make free educational videos that will be released throughout the 2020 Fall semester, focusing on topics relevant to our tournament events (both for traditional Science Olympiad and our Online Open) as well as general STEM topics. Additionally, we are planning to partner with museums, both local and nationwide, to provide additional services such as STEM counseling and to help distribute educational content we create.
