Mentorship Initiative

During the 2019-2020 academic year, HUSO’s Service Branch created educational content for the Match Charter Public School Science Bowl team. Our student teachers engaged with the team in weekly after-school practices, with the goal of delivering content-based seminars that would help team members learn and memorize science trivia in the fields of math, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and earth science. The Match team competed in the Northeastern High School Science Bowl Invitational held at MIT, where the team showcased its ability to solve technical problems in a fast-paced verbal forum.

During the same year, we also partnered with the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School to mentor the Rindge Avenue Upper School Science Olympiad team. Science Olympiad alumni from Harvard, along with current competing members of the CRLS team, traveled to North Cambridge to host weekly sessions, helping Rindge students prepare for a variety of tournament events ranging from laboratory to engineering inquiries. The Rindge Science Olympiad team competed in the second annual HUSO Division B Invitational, the first of hopefully many tournaments they will compete in!
